The peppers
My peppers died. I’m still trying to figure out exactly how. The interesting thing is that they all died. First the Aerogarden peppers and then the peppers in the separate pot. Also interesting is that the tomato plant that shares the same Aerogarden appears to be fine. Usually peppers and tomatoes have similar issues if something kills them, so this makes it especially confusing.
One day about three weeks ago I noticed that the leaves on one of the plants were wilting. I had an amazing crop going on the three trees so I was pretty excited for the upcoming harvest. I probably had another week or two before they were ready. Then the leaves drooped on all the plants in the Aerogarden. They had enough water and I had just added the plant food as usual.
Within a week all of them were dying. I cut back some of the stems and pulled off the wilting leaves. I tried cleaning the reservoir and putting in new water and plant food. But it seems it was too late. I googled pepper plant death and the number one killer is root disease. There are a couple that it could be. However, for one of the diseases you can’t tell if thats the issue without sending some of the roots to a lab apparently. But the roots look fine to me. Nice and white like they should be.
I also noticed some green algae in the water reservoir. If thats what did it I’m going to be pissed. I have it soaking in a water bleach solution currently. I’ve cut them completely down at this point. But that doesn’t explain the peppers in the pot dying too. The poor plants look like pathetic twigs now. I was hoping after a thorough cleaning and cut back maybe I could get them to regrow. I don’t want to have to start all over again so soon.
